Ikecho Australia, pronounced as "i-ket-cho," is a prominent Australian wholesaler specializing in distributing high-quality pearls. The company distinguishes itself by crafting innovative and modern pearl designs that align with global trends and fashion movements. With a strong commitment to quality, Ikecho Australia offers a diverse range of pearl products that cater to the evolving tastes and preferences of the market.

Ikecho [i-ket-cho]

The home of the world’s finest quality cultured pearls and sustainably sourced Opals in Australia, Ikecho is the luxury jewellery brand for the modern woman with elegant taste.

Ikecho’s origins go right back to the 1970’s when Erik Madsen migrated to Australia from Denmark and began working in the opal mines of Lightning Ridge, New South Wales. Building his own wholesale and retail business in between Lightning Ridge and Sydney, Madsen is now a well respected Opal expert around the world and a Founder of the Australian Opal Centre, a non-for-profit which aims to support and grow the industry.

With a passion for the raw and mesmerising beauty of natural gems passed onto her since birth, Madsen’s daughter Erica Miller founded Ikecho as a wearable expression of her respect for the world’s most luxurious organic materials, and her eye for contemporary style.

Pearl's timeless appeal means there is an Ikecho piece to suit anyone - those with simple or traditional tastes might enjoy classic round pearls, in elegant settings that can be worn with a cashmere sweater or a cocktail dress alike. Fashionistas may choose to bring a bohemian edge to their look with an Opal ring or add a rose gold and freshwater pearl huggy to their ear stack.

The first to import natural pink pearls in Australia, our collections feature the most extensive range of quality South Sea, Tahitian, Akoya, Mabe and Chinese Freshwater Pearls alongside precious opals, Australia’s national gemstone, set in sterling silver or 9, 14 and 18-carat white gold, yellow gold and rose gold designs.

Meet Erica

Founded in 1999, Ikecho has its roots in Erica's family heritage and her father's expertise as an Opal wholesaler. Her extensive knowledge of gems, likely stemming from her father's influence, has contributed to Ikecho's success in the industry.

The name "Ikecho" was deliberately chosen to pay homage to the historical significance of freshwater mussels in pearl cultivation in Japan. This choice reflects Erica's desire for her company to be recognized as a prominent player in the Australian freshwater pearl market. Ikecho's aspiration to become the premier destination for freshwater pearls in Australia is a testament to Erica's vision and dedication to her business.

Our Pearls

Establishing close relationships with pearl farms around the world is a key factor in ensuring a reliable and diverse supply of pearls. South Sea, Tahitian, Akoya, Mabe, and Chinese Freshwater Pearls are all popular and highly sought-after varieties, each with its own unique characteristics and appeal to different markets.

Having access to such a wide range of quality pearls allows Ikecho to cater to a diverse customer base, from those seeking the classic elegance of Akoya pearls to those interested in the exotic beauty of Tahitian pearls or the lustrous allure of South Sea pearls.

As time has passed, Ikecho's expertise and relationships in the industry have likely enabled them to provide customers with a consistently high standard of pearls, whether for jewelry, accessories, or other decorative purposes.

Our Opals

Ikecho introduced Opals into its range in late 2017. Opals are a unique and beautiful gemstone known for their play of colours and captivating appearance. Ikecho's decision to incorporate different types of opals such as Boulder and Solids into their jewellery range indicates a diversification of their product offerings to cater to a wider audience with varying preferences and budget ranges.

Overall, this move by Ikecho to introduce opals and offer them in various settings demonstrates their commitment to staying current with jewellery trends and providing customers with a broader array of choices when it comes to opal jewellery.
